SHAIP (Saskatchewan Home Adaptations for Independence Program)

A home adaptation program for Saskatchewan low-income non-senior (under age 65) homeowners and tenants who choose to live independently in their communities, but who are not able to perform the daile tasks necessary to maintain independent living in their homes or suites because of diminished abilities or a disability. SHAIP is funded by the Government of Saskatchewan throught the Saskatchewan Housing Corporation (SHC).

HASI (Home Adaptations for Seniors Independence Program) A home adaptation program for Saskatchewan senior (age 65 and over) homeowners and tenants who chose to live independently in their communities, but who are not able to perform the daily tasks necessary to maintain independent living in their homes or suites because of age-related disabilities.These programs are delivered by the Saskatchewan Housing Corporation (SHC).

SHAIP & HASI offer a one-time forgivable loan of up to $3,500 per housing/rental unit.

SERP (Saskatchewan Emergency Repair Program) - A repair program for low-income homeowners living in Saskatchewan communities with more than 2,500 people who require financial assistance to undertake emergency repairs for the continued safe occupancy of their homes. Funding for SERP is funded by the Government of Saskatchewan throught Saskatchewan Housing Corporation (SHC) & SERP is a companion program to the federal/provincial cost-shared Emergency Repair Program (ERP).

ERP (Emergency Repair Program) - A repair program for low-income homeowners in rural communites of 2,500 or less who require financial assistance to undertake emergency repairs required for the continued safe occupancy of their homes. Funding for ERP is cost shared by the fenderal and provincial governments.

In southern Saskatchewan : A forgivable loan up to $6,000 per housing unit.

In northern Saskatchewan : A forgivable loan up to $9,000 per housing unit.

RRAP (Residential Rehabilitation Assistance Program) - Provides financial assistance to low-income homeowners to complete repairs required to bring their home up to minimum health and saftey standards.

Assistance Available: The maximum forgiveness loan will be $16,000 in southern areas of the province and $19,000 in the north. For dwellings without permanent foundations, the maximum forgivable loan is $8,000 sin the south and $9,500 in the north.

Eligible Repairs: Examples of eligible modifications include but are not restricted to:

    • Repair of leaking roofs
    • Foundation repairs
    • Major plumbing repairs
    • Electrical repairs deemed necessary by an electrial inspection
    • Furnace repair/replacement demmed necessary by a gas inspector
    • Other work deemed appropriate by Saskatchewan Housing Corporation (SHC)
